Skilled Laborer

Overview

Responsible for assisting the Solar Technician to assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. This may include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
  • Use appropriate hand tools (e.g. crescent wrench, pliers, hammer, screwdriver, etc.) and power tools (e.g. Drills, Impact Wrenches) to perform a variety of functions to install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions
  • Lay-out, assemble and install solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specified
  • Install structural, mechanical, rack system and PV panels
  • Lift, carry and hold building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, material, and work areas; maintain a clean as you go policy and leave work areas clean before leaving site
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety by working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles, using stop‑work authority when needed
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed
  • Participate in all pre‑job planning and safety discussions; identify safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g. backup alarms, smoke smell, warning tags, sirens)
  • Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag‑out procedures; attend site‑specific training and assure adherence as outlined in training
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers on the job
  • Actively participate in on‑the‑job training and mentoring opportunities with co‑workers in your craft when provided
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards
  • Assist in the storage, planning and layout of materials in accordance with plans and specifications
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement; notify supervision of any hazards observed and use stop‑work authority as needed
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and continuous improvement measures; take corrective actions and report any issues to supervision
  • If certified to operate equipment, ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, and complete daily equipment inspections for equipment being utilized
  • Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the principal duties and accountabilities
  • Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision
  • Perform all other job‑related duties as requested by supervisor
Qualifications
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately
  • Learn to read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions
  • Experience working as a laborer or in any construction craft as a helper, and basic knowledge of working in Solar Photovoltaic construction craft
  • Developing knowledge of the assembly, installation, or maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
  • Ability to understand and follow directions
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
