The Plumbing Inspector II plays a vital role in the inspection team, ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, and applicable Federal and State regulations. This position involves conducting thorough inspections of residential and commercial plumbing systems to verify adherence to the City building code requirements. The inspector will assist community members, developers, and business owners with inquiries related to building codes and inspection processes, while utilizing strong human relations and dispute resolution skills to effectively address non-routine issues that may arise.
Collaboration with other departments and stakeholders is essential to facilitate clear communication and resolution of inspection-related matters. The ideal candidate will demonstrate independent judgment and decision‑making abilities, along with relevant certifications and prior experience in plumbing inspections, contributing to the development and implementation of policies, standards, and guidelines in the field.
- Provides an overall view of daily and in-progress inspections and field corrections to the supervisor.
- Provides effective professional liaison between the Department and other City Departments, representatives from public agencies, area businesses, and the public.
- Performs inspections for non-permitted work and dangerous building conditions.
- Interprets and applies departmental or office rules, policies, and regulations in accordance with prescribed procedures and guidelines.
- Responds to citizen complaints related to field inspection activities.
- Develops, analyzes, and defends program documentation, project reports, and legal positions associated with the codes, policies, and ordinances.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Current State of Idaho Issued Journeyman License.
- IAPMO plumbing inspector certificate or ability to obtain within 6 months from hire date.
- 5 years plus of experience as a plumbing inspector, or any combination of experience and training in the plumbing and mechanical industry.
- Valid State of Idaho drivers license.
- Extensive knowledge of plumbing and mechanical inspection principles, practices, codes, and regulations.
- Comprehensive understanding of procedures for documenting inspections, addressing violations, and navigating court processes as necessary.
- Familiarity with concepts, materials, and terminology associated with building construction in plumbing and mechanical contexts.
- Strong awareness of applicable codes and regulations.
- Proficient in computer applications relevant to inspection activities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with individuals from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, especially in confrontational situations.
- Ability to interpret and apply methods, practices, procedures, codes, and regulations related to plumbing and mechanical construction.
- Capable of explaining codes, regulations, and procedures to engineers, architects, developers, property owners, and the public.
- Skilled in interpreting construction plans, specifications, and related documents.
- Demonstrated initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
