Position OverviewThe Asphalt Laborer is responsible for assisting with the placement, finishing, and maintenance of asphalt on construction projects. This position supports paving crews in completing projects safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)- Assist in the placement, spreading, and leveling of asphalt materials.
- Support paving operations, including shoveling, raking, and smoothing asphalt.
- Work around heavy equipment such as pavers, rollers, and trucks.
- Follow grade and prep instructions to ensure proper thickness and finish.
- Clean tools, equipment, and work areas before, during, and after projects.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment.
- Direct traffic and maintain safe work zones as needed. Follow all safety protocols, including OSHA and company safety policies.
- Work cooperatively with crew members and supervisors to meet production goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous construction or asphalt/paving experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Basic understanding of asphalt paving processes (preferred).
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and safety awareness.

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
