SUMMARYThis position will offer students foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in various trades. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore Engineering and Robotics, develop practical skills, and prepare them for potential careers in skilled trades or further technical education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Attend all practices, meetings, and in-school events, and supervise students during related field trips and other off campus functions
- Attend off campus meetings, supervise fundraisers, and help students prepare for competitions
- Coach individual participants of varying abilities in the skills necessary for achievement in Robotics
- Track student performance throughout the season and develop stat sheets on players
- Arrange with the activities director for any necessary transportation, scheduling, coordinating of officials, or other arrangements for competitions related to the sport
- Ensure the safety of the students and maintain responsibility for the security of equipment and facilities and ensure that safety equipment is used correctly
- Comply with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy pertaining to medical procedures and student athletes, including the district’s concussion policy
- Ensure that students are eligible to participate
- Actively promote the robotics program, seek student participation, and select team members
- Model positive behavior, maintain a supportive environment, and remain professional
- Maintain high standards of conduct for student participants, including respect and fair play
- Prepare the team’s budget, order necessary supplies and equipment, and maintain appropriate records related to activity expenses and revenues
- Be responsible for the collection and depositing of funds in accordance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy
- Collaborate with other coaches, team sponsors, competition judges, media representatives, and operators of non-district facilities used for training or competitions as appropriate
- Assist the athletics and activities director, when requested to do so, in maintaining necessary attendance forms, accident reporting, and all other required paperwork
- Train and assign duties to team managers, assistant advisors, and direct event volunteers, if applicable
- Evaluate the program annually and make recommendations for improvements as necessary
- Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, and by reading professional publications
- Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education as well as to the National Federation of State High School Associations Coaches Code of Ethics
- Seek assistance should emergencies arise
- Represent the school district in a positive manner
- Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
- Perform other duties as assigned
Assistant Advisor(s) if applicable
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE- High School Diploma or GED required
- Idaho Teaching Certification preferred
- Certification or willingness to obtain certification in first aid and CPR required
- Demonstrated knowledge of Robotics and Engineering
- Related experience as determined by the Board
- Ability to foster and sustain students' interest in the activity and promote skill development
- Possess good organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work well with students, parents, and colleagues
- Demonstrate aptitude for working with adolescents
- Works well with students, staff, and the public
- Maintain confidentiality of staff and students
