Position Summary

The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is committed to empowering students to succeed by providing affordable and accessible education to advance the local and global workforce.

The Teaching Assistant for Geosciences will support the work of faculty and students in preparing the future geoscience workforce through practical skill development and academic readiness for advanced studies.

Essential Functions

The TA will provide 16 weeks of support at 8 hours per week for each semester, that is a total of 2 semesters per project year. The TA is responsible for assisting MINE.AS instructors in training and supervision of students during the classroom, skills lab, and other components of the program. The TA is also responsible for ensuring effective utilization of resources, including supplies and time management.

Performs general academic functions in support of a specific course, faculty, or department.

  • Assist with the preparation, distribution, and collection of class, grant, lab, and/or geoscience materials
  • Assist a faculty member with the course preparations, and instructional materials.
  • Assume responsibility to maintain positive and effective student, teacher and facility employee relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Successful candidates will have successfully completed 1 - 2 semesters of coursework and demonstrated knowledge and skill are eligible to assist in various Geoscience courses as an assistant.
