Sandblaster
The sandblaster is responsible for operating abrasive blasting equipment to clean and prepare metal, and other surfaces for painting, coating, or repair. The position requires adherence to safety standards, equipment maintenance, and quality control measures to ensure surfaces meet customer and company specifications.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Operate sandblasting and abrasive blasting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Prepare surfaces by removing rust, paint, corrosion, scale, and contaminants.
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure quality standards are met.
- Select appropriate blasting media based on project requirements.
- Set up, maintain, and clean blasting equipment and work areas.
- Follow job specifications, work orders, and production schedules.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, or outdoor environments as required.
- Assist painters and coating technicians with surface preparation activities.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
- Previous sandblasting, industrial painting, manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience operating abrasive blasting equipment is highly desirable.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and blasting media.
- Ability to read work instructions and safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to wear respirators, blasting hoods, and other PPE for extended periods.
- Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and physically demanding environments.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when necessary.
Working conditions:
- Industrial manufacturing, fabrication, or construction environments.
- Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and varying weather conditions.
- Use of personal protective equipment including respirators, blast suits, gloves, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
