7p-7a weekends as needed, Float to all St. Lukes Treasure Valley Sites-Meridian, Nampa, Boise in primary skill set (L&D/Mother Baby) or as a sitter.

Unit Overview
  • Beds: 14 LDRP beds (patients stay in the same room)
  • OR Suites: 2 (for C-sections – RNs circulate and recover)
  • Triage Beds: 4 (travelers will staff triage)
  • Birth Volume:
    • ~90/month
    • ~1,200/year
Staffing & Ratios
  • AWHONN Staffing Standards Followed
    • Labor: 1:1
    • May pair 2 cervical ripening patients
    • Postpartum: 1:3 couplets
    • Triage: 1:3 (if 4 patients, Resource RN assists)
  • Charge Nurse:
    • Present every shift
    • Does NOT take an assignment
  • Additional Leadership Support:
    • Admin Supervisor every shift
    • Resource RN (no assignment at start; assists with breaks, deliveries, baby stabilization, med double sign-off)
    • Dedicated Triage RN (fills quickly)
Patient Population
  • 32 weeks gestation and greater
  • Hypertension (Magnesium administration required experience)
  • VBACs and TOLACs
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Diverse population
  • Community includes many home birth midwives (patients often present for intervention/pain control)
  • Some antepartum patients
  • Do NOT accept: Placenta previa or placenta accreta
Required Certifications
  • NRP
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • STABLE
Drips
  • RNs titrate drips
  • Common drips:
    • Pitocin (Protocol driven)
    • Magnesium (Protocol driven)
    • Insulin (occasionally)
Support Staff
  • 1 CST per shift
  • 1 CNA per shift (may be pulled to HUC role if needed)
  • OB Hospitalist 24/7
  • Neonatal NP 24/7
  • Anesthesia in-house 24/7
  • RT available for troubleshooting
Monitoring
  • No tele techs
  • RNs read own strips
  • Tele capability available but rarely used
  • Patients requiring higher level of care are transferred
  • EFM System: Centricity
Scheduling
  • Shift Times: 7a–7p / 7p–7a
  • Charge & Resource: 0645–1845 / 1845–0645
  • First schedule:
    Travelers fill holes
  • Subsequent schedules:
    Preferences considered but not guaranteed
  • No block scheduling guaranteed
  • Cannot work 6 shifts in a row
Weekend & Holiday
  • No set weekend minimum
  • No set holiday requirement
  • May work holiday based on need
  • Core staff follow 3-group holiday rotation
Call
  • No call requirement
Floating
  • Must float to all St. Luke’s Treasure Valley sites:
    • Meridian
    • Nampa
    • Boise
  • Float within primary skill set (L&D, Postpartum, Antepartum) or as sitter
  • Travel duos require 2 vehicles (may float to different sites)

  • 4 unit-specific shifts
    • C-Section

    • Postpartum
  • Compliance & EPIC (Curio) assignments must be completed before start
Dress Code
  • Hospital-issued scrubs
  • Must change in/out at beginning and end of shift
  • No fingernail lacquer policy
    • No acrylic or gel nails
    • NICU embedded within 7 LDRP rooms
Additional Notes
  • Strong traveler retention (many extend and return)
  • Only LDRP site in the system
  • 50-mile radius rule applies
