Description:

The unit has 14 LDRP beds where patients stay in the same room. There are 2 surgical suites for C-sections. The unit has 4 triage beds. It is staffed to handle approximately 90 births monthly and 1200 annually. Staff follows established staffing standards. The guidelines allow for a 1:1 labor ratio, unless pairing cervical ripening patients. Postpartum care ratios are 1:3 for couplets.

In triage, ratios are 1:3, with a resource nurse utilized when patient numbers increase. Required certifications include NRP, BLS, ACLS, and STABLE. Common patient diagnoses include those with 32-week gestation and greater, hypertension requiring magnesium, and some with gestational diabetes. The population served is diverse, with a significant number of patients seeking medical interventions. Patients with placental issues such as previa and accreta are not admitted.

There is an OB hospitalist and neonatal NP available 24/7. Anesthesia services are also available around the clock. Respiratory therapists are available for equipment troubleshooting. There are no tele/monitor techs on the unit; RNs read their own strips. Effective self-scheduling is encouraged to maximize staff satisfaction. No minimum weekend requirements exist but requests will be accommodated. There is no standby or call requirement.

Travelers may float to various sites based on staffing needs. All staff must adhere to hospital-issued dress code for scrubs. Compliance training must be completed prior to start. The unit operates under a no fingernail lacquer policy due to its unique environment. Candidates will need individual transportation as floating may occur across multiple sites.
