Amalgamated Sugar Company seeks an experienced mechanic to be the on-site, hands-on functional expert to repair and maintain our inventory of rolling stock. Performs advanced diagnostics, service repairs, rebuilding jobs and maintenance work on Company owned rolling stock and rented equipment. Completes daily tasks in the field and at company shops in a safe, efficient, and capable manner, using the least number of labor hours necessary.

This includes everything from diesel loaders to pickup trucks.

Pay
  • Starting pay is $33.28 with ability to advance to $35.05 per hour as you learn the operation and demonstrate your skills.

Essential Job Functions
  • Must be able and willing to work in full compliance with approved safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime if needed.
  • Able to lift 55 lbs., stand up to 10 hours a day, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, and move equipment as needed. Must be comfortable in year around outdoor temperatures, in loud conditions, and working around moving mechanical equipment.
  • Able to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English including safety procedures, safety signs, work orders, schedules, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and repair standards and procedures.
Duties
  • Performs advanced diagnostics, service repairs and maintenance work on Company owned and rented equipment. Documents each work order or repair job with the required information.
  • Keeps shop area clean and orderly.
  • Communicates with Supervisor regarding additional work required on a unit or if shop equipment or vehicle is not in serviceable condition or constitutes a safety hazard
  • Conducts themself in the presence of customers in a manner which will retain a good opinion of the company and the Rolling Stock Service Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Establishes and leads effective stocking processes with the storeroom and purchasing to maintain the proper seasonal parts inventory for our day-to-day needs.
  • Maintains condition of mobile service vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Current diesel certification from an ASE sponsored program.
  • Five (5) + years of mechanical repair (Gas and Diesel) and maintenance experience with automotive and heavy industrial equipment.
  • Ability to perform advanced to complex service repairs.
  • Excellent skills in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic repairs.
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in the repair of heavy equipment.
  • Basic computer and systems ability.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with outside vendors and repair shops as needed.
