The principal function of this role is to provide direction as crew coordinator (leader) and assist with work tasks for Parks Maintenance Technicians in the maintenance of City parks, sports fields and City owned property. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Parks Supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
Supervision is exercised over a crew of parks employees including seasonal workers. The nature of the work requires establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other City employees and the public. The principal duties are performed outdoors in a variety of terrain and weather conditions.
- Perform full range of manual and skilled turfgrass management, landscape construction, maintenance, and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility.
- Supervise full‑time and seasonal maintenance crews, including staffing for landscape construction projects.
- Provide personnel training on technical aspects of landscape construction and maintenance, sprinkler design, fertilizing, herbicides, mowing, forestry, general maintenance, staff and public safety, and documentation.
- Work closely with the Parks Supervisor to develop plans and work tasks for assigned personnel, create and assign work orders, prioritize tasks, provide supplies, ensure safety, monitor schedules, report progress, manage conflict, and develop work plans.
- Inspect crew work quality and timeliness, report concerns, make recommendations, and assist in completing work tasks.
- Ensure public and operational safety and security, coordinating with other City services and departments.
- Perform key duties of the Parks Supervisor in their absence.
- Assume responsibility for additional duties as required or assigned.
- Provide training and demonstrations on work tasks to new employees as necessary.
- Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions as required; review relevant publications to stay current on principles and practices.
- Keep supervisor and designated others accurately informed of work progress, potential problems, and suggestions for improvement.

- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Associate’s degree preferred, field of study: horticulture, landscape construction, or a closely related field.
- Five or more years of experience in landscaping and/or horticulture field work required; experience supervising or leading staff on landscape maintenance and construction preferred.
- Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications and to learn new skills quickly.
- State of Idaho Class B CDL required within one year of employment.
- Applicators License required within one year of employment.
