Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island (BBBSCVI) is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Through community partnerships and evidence-based programming, we help young people realize their potential and build brighter futures.

BBBSCVI operates with a small, dedicated team of staff and volunteers, delivering mentoring programs to children and youth across Central Vancouver Island through a combination of community-based and school-based programs. The organization is supported by a diverse funding model that includes grants, community fundraising, and donor support.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership to advance the organization’s mission, deepen community impact, and strengthen long-term sustainability.

This role oversees fund development, staff leadership, and organizational performance. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and visionary leader with a passion for youth development and a strong track record in relationship building, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement.

Key Areas of Leadership and Oversight Strategic Leadership
  • Partner with the Board to establish strategic priorities and performance goals
  • Lead execution of the strategic plan while supporting strong governance practices
  • Foster a culture of accountability and transparency, including clear, consistent, and timely reporting to the Board
Program Excellence
  • Ensure delivery of high‑quality mentoring programs that meet or exceed national standards
  • Embed safety and risk management practices across all programs and services
  • Leverage data and evaluation to continuously strengthen program outcomes and participant experience
Fund Development and Community Relations
  • Develop and implement diversified fund development strategies through grants, events, individual giving, and corporate partnerships
  • Serve as the primary ambassador and spokesperson for the organization in the community
  • Strengthen and expand relationships with donors, schools, and community partners
  • Oversee the organization’s marketing and communications strategy to enhance visibility and engagement
Operations and Financial Management
  • Oversee budgets, financial stewardship, and organizational performance
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and national standards
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reporting, including CRA compliance
  • Strengthen operational systems including CRM, data management, and reporting processes
  • Uphold privacy and safety in alignment with organizational policies
People and Culture
  • Lead, mentor, and retain a high‑performing team of staff and volunteers
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and team development
  • Establish clear expectations and align HR practices with legislation, national standards, and organizational values
Qualifications and Experience
  • Post‑secondary education in nonprofit management, business, social services, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
