Role Purpose
Connective is a dynamic non‑profit organization that provides innovative programming in the social services sector. We strive to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all.

The Restorative Justice Affected Parties Case Worker is a new position funded through the British Columbia Civil Forfeiture Grant Program. It will significantly expand the program’s capacity with a specific focus on supporting affected parties and their supporters throughout the restorative justice process. This role will support the Restorative Justice Team in programmatic operations, predominantly case management of affected parties involved.

This is a dedicated role centered on enhancing support for those affected by crime, which includes leading intake assessments, working as mentor on cases, and creating individualized case plans. Under the direction and supervision of the Program Manager, the Affected Parties Case Worker will work with individuals who have been harmed to build restorative processes around their needs and prepare them for restorative circles and other healing processes.

This position will also participate in the screening, training, and coordination of volunteers.

In this program, we use “affected party” in place of “victim,” and “responsible party” in place of “offender.”

Reporting and Working Relationships

Reports and is accountable to the Program Coordinator or their designate

Liaises with staff and volunteers of community and government agencies as required

Liaises with the staff of Connective as necessary

Hours and Availability
20 hours per week, Monday‑Friday flexible hours.

This is a temporary position to be filled until the return of the incumbent, June 30 2027.

Key Accountabilities

Conduct intake assessments with affected parties to determine program suitability, identify client needs, and explore potential outcomes.

Participate in team case management debriefings; identify presenting issues, support challenging files, and determine types of restorative processes to initiate, given the circumstances of the file.

Work closely with affected parties, community contacts, and other stakeholders to ensure processes are inclusive, needs‑based, and trauma‑informed.

Provide one‑on‑one supports to ensure victims have information, voice, and choice throughout the restorative process.

Network with new and existing community‑serving organizations and direct program participants to a wide variety of local support services and resources.

Maintain robust records of all relevant qualitative and quantitative case information, correspondence with referral agents, and volunteer activities in Salesforce and other data collection systems.

Ensure files are processed in a timely manner and/or in accordance with the Restorative Justice Program’s Agreement for Services with the City of Nanaimo.

Provide updates to referring individuals and organizations on case progress on a bi‑weekly basis at minimum.

Adhere to professional guidelines with respect to client confidentiality.

Assist the Program Coordinator and Case Worker with volunteer engagement including conducting orientations, co‑facilitating monthly volunteer meetings, organizing training sessions, and monitoring volunteer/affected party relationships.

Model professional expectations of dress, daily work habits, and interpersonal communication; representing the organization and program in the community.

Attend appropriate staff training sessions, including programmatic staff development opportunities.

Functions independently, while remaining a crucial member of the care team

Adheres to Connective policies and procedures

Is available to work flexible hours as needed, which may include some evenings and weekends, as determined by program/client needs and schedules

Is a member of CUPE Local 1936‑11
