Nantucket Public Schools seeks a compassionate, dependable, and student-centered Medical Teaching Assistant to support students with medical and health‑related needs during the school day. The Medical Teaching Assistant works under the direction of the school nurse and building administration to provide assistance with student health plans, daily medical routines, and classroom support, ensuring students can safely access and participate in their educational program.
This position combines health‑related support with traditional teaching assistant responsibilities and requires strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Assist the school nurse in implementing student health care plans and accommodations.
- Provide support to students with medical needs throughout the school day as directed by the school nurse.
- Accompany and supervise students requiring health‑related assistance during transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities.
- Observe and report student health concerns, changes in condition or incidents to the school nurse promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student health information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
- Complete the required training to be designated as delegated personnel to administer certain medications.
- Work collaboratively with the school nurse, teachers, specialists, administrators, and families as appropriate.
- Participate in meetings and trainings related to student support and health needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation as required by the school nurse and district procedures.
- Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other non‑instructional times as assigned.
- Support student safety and well‑being throughout the school day.
- Perform other duties consistent with the Teaching Assistant position as assigned by the Principal or designee.
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent; ability to work effectively with elementary‑aged students; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries; ability to follow medical and instructional directions accurately.
- Preferred: Experience working with children in a school, childcare, healthcare, or related setting; experience supporting students with medical, behavioral, or specialized needs; current CPR and First Aid certification required; at least one year of relevant experience; high school/trade school degree; citizenship, residency or work visa required.

- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, and perform physical tasks associated with student support.
