Nurse Practitioner
Join the Nantucket Cottage Hospital Orthopedics team and practice in a collaborative, well resourced setting. In this role, you'll run an independent clinic, managing new and follow up patients and first-assist in the OR. Prior orthopedic experience is required, and upper extremity experience is a plus.
Note:
This role does not currently include total joints or hip cases. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for assessing and managing various patient populations, including those with medical and/or surgical conditions, as well as providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing appropriate plans of care, and conducting ongoing evaluations. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.
Essential Functions:
- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
- Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
Qualifications:
Education:
Master's Degree in Nursing required.
Licenses and Credentials:
Mass NP license required.
Experience:
2 years of experience as a NP required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
