80 fte Academic Specialist position along with a.20 fte temporary Multilingual Learner Lead position. The goal of this position is to address specific district and site achievement goals for students as part of the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). Academic Specialists will provide staff training and support in the implementation of Common Core State Standards, formative, benchmark and summative assessments, innovative 21st century learning and strategies, project/problem-based learning and effective instructional practices in identified content areas.

Professional development related to the Academic Coach position to build content and pedagogical knowledge is required including developing coaching, mentoring and collaboration skills and understanding of inquiry-based instructional platforms specific to the school site (e.g., PBL, International Baccalaureate, STEM, Artful Learning, etc.). The Academic Specialist oversees monitoring of student progress including coordination of data for PLC planning. Identified Academic Specialists will participate as members of a district wide Academic Specialist PLC for meetings and training related to their essential functions.

Candidates need to have teaching experience at the high school level working with high-risk youth and diverse populations. Candidates must possess strong collaborative classroom management skills along with the ability to differentiate instruction in the classroom. To motivate reluctant learners, the candidate must be dynamic and compassionate. It is desired that candidates possess a working knowledge of alternative education teaching and classroom management strategies.
