Payroll Specialist
We are seeking a qualified candidate for one (1) Payroll Specialist vacancy within the Finance Department. In this role you will support the Accounting Division by performing complex payroll transactions, reconciliations, and related financial processes.
Upcoming salary increases: 2% effective July 4, 2026; 2.5% effective January 2027; 3.5% effective July 2027; 3.25% effective July 2028; 2.85% effective July 2029.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and process bi‑weekly payroll for City staff.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Perform reconciliations of payroll data and resolve discrepancies.
- Support related financial processes and support the Finance Department’s budget and reporting activities.
- Technical Knowledge and Skill – Technical, functional, or professional skill in payroll and related areas; keeping up with current developments to accomplish results.
- Emotional Intelligence – Ability to establish and sustain trusting relationships, accurately perceive and interpret emotions, and manage own responses.
- Information Monitoring – Ability to set up procedures to collect and review information needed to manage ongoing activities.
- Decision Making – Ability to identify problems, analyze quantitative and qualitative information, generate alternatives, and make timely decisions consistent with facts and constraints.
- Quality Orientation – Ability to accomplish tasks with attention to detail and verify processes and tasks.
- Customer Service – Ability to put the customer’s perspective at the forefront and implement service practices that meet needs.
- Resolving Conflict – Ability to help others manage conflict and promote shared goals.
- Adaptability – Ability to maintain effectiveness during major changes in work responsibilities or environment.
