Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer, Installation Technician
Position Purpose
Located in the heart of Napa California’s Wine Country along the historic Silverado Trail, Black Stallion Estate Winery is looking for a Maintenance Technician, Journey level. This pivotal role involves specialized maintenance of HVAC, Ammonia Refrigeration, and Electrical systems to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment in accordance with safety procedures and industry best practices.
Essential Duties- Installs and maintains diverse HVAC, Ammonia Refrigeration, and/or Electrical systems
- Performs general and preventative maintenance on all compressors and HVAC systems, changes filters and replaces parts as they wear out
- Ensures calibration of thermostats, RTDs, and other controls
- Performs mechanical and electrical checks on motors and belts and handles lubrication duties
- Maintains and repairs HVAC, Ammonia Refrigeration, and/or Electrical systems at multiple DFV locations
- Reads wiring schematics and diagrams for all equipment
- Performs diagnostics and determines root cause of malfunctions in HVAC, Ammonia Refrigeration, and Electrical systems
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve issues immediately
- Replaces faulty or expired parts
- Provides critical support of production schedules ensuring customer delivery commitments are met
- Inspects designated buildings, refrigeration plants, and electrical control systems to determine maintenance needs
- Detects malfunctions and implements plans to resolve them
- Troubleshoots and repairs systems across a broad spectrum of facilities
- High school diploma or equivalent; AA/AS in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus
- Completion of a craft apprenticeship or equivalent years of education and production maintenance experience
- Seven years’ experience in a specialized field of knowledge
- Preferred:
Winery experience - Basic refrigeration cycle knowledge: identify components, understand operation, diagnose problems, use manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart, and temperature measuring devices; understand recovery, evacuation, and charging
- In-depth knowledge of all refrigeration components and theory of operation
- Basic electrical theory: AC & DC currents, single-phase & three-phase circuits, series & parallel circuits, read wiring diagrams, Ohm’s law, multi-meter usage
- Basic heating cycle knowledge: identify components, diagnose heating problems, use gas pressure test
- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, design, repair, maintenance
- Physics knowledge of fluid and material dynamics, mechanical principles
- HVAC certified with certificate
- RETA Training and/or CIRO Certified
- Welding certifications a plus
- Constant exposure to elements and temperature variation, working both indoors and outdoors and at heights up to 45 feet
- Some work areas require ear and eye protection
- Exposure to maintenance materials including batteries, lubricating fluids, paints, solvents, etc.
- Position on a rotating shift schedule
