Undergraduate Intern - Civil​/Environmental Engineering & Construction Management

The City of Naperville's Water Utility seeks a self-motivated student majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering for a summer-long internship. Duties include both office and field work (in all weather conditions). The hours are Monday - Friday (7 am - 3:30 pm), mid-May to mid-August. This position is an excellent opportunity to network with municipal Engineers, water utility professionals, and related contractors and to learn and work for a very progressive organization.

* Work primarily in the field observing the construction of large-scale projects.

* Aid in the drafting of drawings (using AutoCAD) and their upgrades.

* Collect data using GPS equipment for the upgrade and maintenance of city GIS systems

* Supervise construction performed by contractors

* Other duties as assigned

* Candidate must be currently enrolled in a college-accredited curriculum in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.

* A basic understanding of engineering concepts and materials, including concrete and asphalt (training will be provided.)

* Experience with AutoCAD and GIS is a plus.

* Strong oral and written communication skills; and experience with Word and Excel.

* Be at least 18 years of age.

* Have a valid State of Illinois Class D Driver's License. Applicants should possess a driving history with no moving violations for at least the last twelve (12) months.
