Engineer, Integrity Verification
The Engineer, Integrity Verification, is accountable for managing the Nicor Gas Dig Program. This position will assist the lead engineer with the Integrity Verification Program through detailed research and prudent evaluation of existing pipeline and related asset records and physical attributes based on codes, standards, and practices established by PHMSA, the Company, and Industry. As the assets are assessed, the Engineer orchestrates and directs subsequent actions, as necessary, including managing additional work to establish maximum allowable operating pressures.
The role requires significant coordination with Transmission Integrity, Project Management, Construction, Land, GIS & Asset Data Services as well as precise documentation.
The Dig Program will process all digs performed:
- manage all projects to meet all codes and standards
- ensure the SOW for each dig is followed
- review and provide feedback on designs by third-party and direct internally designed projects
- technical support to construction field activities including on-site support
- utilize digs (excavations) to cover multiple requests (if opportunistic)
- obtain Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) data
- satisfy TIMP assessment requirements
- satisfy Operations needs (corrosion, asset protection, etc.)
Qualifications
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
- BA/BS in Engineering (Civil, Industrial, or Mechanical preferred)

Work Experience:
Required:
- LEVEL 3: 1-2 years of progressive Engineering experience or any equivalent education and experience
- LEVEL 4: 2-3 years of progressive engineering experience
- LEVEL 5: 5 years of progressive engineering experience in gas standard and materials, project engineering or construction management of natural gas, pipeline facilities or other applicable industries. 2 years or more of familiarity and experience with Gas Safety regulations or utility pipeline construction practices
Skills:
- Strong engineering and construction knowledge with natural gas distribution systems, natural gas transmission systems, gas engineering principles and theories, and DOT pipeline safety regulations
- Knowledge of PHMSA Part 192, ASME B31.8, B31.8S and other codes related to pipeline integrity
- Strong understanding of the integrity management assessment process
- MS Office Suite – intermediate proficiency
- Highly skilled working across functional organization for group coordination
- Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
- Ability to influence and persuade in decision making.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Preferred:
Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) or Professional Engineering License (PE)
Working Conditions/
Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to all types of weather
- Keyboarding: 50%
- Regular Field Presence at Construction Sites
