Hakka- Interpreter

Position Overview

This position is a phone interpreter for the Hakka–China language on a work‑from‑home basis. The interpreter handles on‑demand calls and translates conversations between Hakka‑China and English speakers. The role supports a variety of industries, including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The interpreter is required to be a professional and courteous communicator with strong cultural sensitivity.

• Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the interpreting sessions at all times.
• Remain calm during sessions when a primary speaker is incoherent or upset, especially in emergency situations such as 911 calls.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions in compliance with protocol and avoid interacting with the LEP without the client’s permission.
• Understand industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity and diversity awareness.
• Provide interpretation for sensitive subjects, including end‑of‑life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
• Remain on the call when extended periods are required and handle high call volumes while meeting company standards of service.

• Fluency in Hakka–China and English, with skill in the associated cultural dynamics.
• Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences to communicate clearly with the LEP.
• Excellent listening, retention and note‑taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
• Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective, and handle sensitive subjects.
• Education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.
• At least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring future visa sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write the required languages (highly preferred).
• Must adapt to any LLS technology enhancements that improve service delivery and meet client demands.

• No Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware, or restricted brands.

• Access to a quiet, dedicated space free from background noise or distraction.

• Operate a keyboard and mouse; remain in a stationary position in front of a computer for most of the workday.
• Operate company‑provided software and systems for all job aspects.
• Type or write with sufficient manual dexterity.
• Lift up to 26lbs.
• May be exposed to moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone).

This is an independent contractor position and therefore not eligible for employee benefits. Pay: $2.50 – $2.55 per minute.
