Job Title:
Global Food Safety & Quality Systems Assessment Manager

Location: Remote

Shift: 1st Shift

Travel Requirement: 30–40% (Domestic and International)

Position Summary

The Global Food Safety & Quality Systems Assessment Manager is responsible for leading and governing internal food safety and food quality system assessments across the global manufacturing network of The Hershey Company
. This role serves as a corporate subject matter expert (SME) in food safety auditing, Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification schemes, and quality systems governance.

The position ensures global alignment to regulatory, certification, and internal standards while protecting consumer safety and company brand integrity. The individual will work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional and international teams to drive risk mitigation, audit readiness, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Food Safety & Quality Assessment Program Management (40%)

  • Plan, manage, and execute internal food safety and quality system assessments at global manufacturing facilities
  • Develop and maintain auditor competency across corporate and site-level teams
  • Serve as Quality & Regulatory Compliance (QRC) liaison to Internal Audit for follow-up and closure of findings
  • Partner with Internal Audit to align assessment methodologies and reporting
  • Lead quarterly senior leadership reviews on critical food safety risks and mitigation progress

2. Governance of Food Safety & Quality Assessment Programs (30%)

  • Ensure global consistency and compatibility of assessment programs across suppliers, contract manufacturers, distribution centers, food service, and licensing partners
  • Define qualification criteria for internal and third-party auditors
  • Manage relationships, contracts, and performance expectations with external assessment providers
  • Oversee auditor calibration and effectiveness of corrective action processes

3. Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Subject Matter Expert (20%)

  • Act as company expert on Global Food Safety Initiative benchmarked certification schemes
  • Provide technical guidance on compliance with standards such as SQF
    , BRCGS
    , and FSSC 22000
  • Ensure global facilities maintain certification readiness and training compliance
  • Maintain relationships with scheme owners and certification bodies

4. Project Leadership & Strategic Initiatives (10%)

  • Represent QRC on global strategic projects related to assessment systems, documentation platforms, and KPI development
  • Provide food safety and quality expertise during mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and new facility start-ups
Scope and Impact
  • Establish global policy and standards for food safety and quality system assessment practices
  • Influence enterprise-wide strategy related to audit readiness and certification compliance
  • Mitigate food safety risk to protect consumers and safeguard company reputation
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, regulatory, supply chain, and executive leadership globally
Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of Quality Assurance experience within the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry, with significant exposure to food manufacturing and audit programs

Technical Knowledge

  • HACCP principles and Preventive Controls
  • GMPs and global food safety regulatory frameworks, including knowledge of U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements
  • Food manufacturing processes and quality systems
  • GFSI certification schemes and audit methodologies

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong leadership and ability to guide globally diverse teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment

Certifications

Required:

  • HACCP Certification
  • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) or equivalent

Preferred:

  • ISO 9001 Auditor Certification (ASQ or RABQSA)
  • FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor training

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel 30–40% globally, including occasional weekends
  • Valid passport and driver’s license required
