Boiler and Facilities Mechanic (Maintenance Technician)

This role focuses on operating, maintaining, and repairing high-pressure boilers and related facilities equipment at an on-site cogeneration plant in Naperville, IL. You will ensure reliable production of electricity and efficient operation of mechanical and electrical systems that support industrial water management and hygiene solutions. The position requires strong technical skills, attention to safety, and the ability to troubleshoot complex equipment in a dynamic industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate high-pressure boilers, turbines, high-voltage generators, and auxiliary equipment at an on-site cogeneration plant that produces electricity.
• Perform preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance, including repair activities, on boilers, turbines, generators, and associated plant equipment.
• Maintain and repair support equipment such as coolers, steam chillers, air compressors, water softeners, fire pumps, distribution equipment, monitoring equipment, and condenser water cooling towers.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment to identify root causes of issues and implement effective repairs and modifications.
• Monitor control boards and regulate equipment according to established procedures, using information obtained from recording and indicating instruments.
• Order replacement parts and consumables, and manage inventory to ensure availability of critical components.
• Work safely in environments that may involve confined spaces, heat, heights, and heavy lifting, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
• Climb ladders and handle materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds as part of routine maintenance tasks.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives in plant maintenance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Perform additional maintenance and facilities-related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of maintenance experience in an industrial or military environment, or a technical degree or diploma in a mechanical or electrical maintenance discipline.
• Hands-on experience with pressure steam plant operations.
• Experience operating and maintaining absorption or steam chillers.
• Ability to safely climb ladders and work at heights.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Capability to work in confined spaces and in hot environments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial mechanical maintenance.
• Basic understanding of electrical systems maintenance.
• Ability to read, follow, and apply operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Willingness to work a Sunday to Thursday schedule from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Stationary Engineer's License.
• Formal vocational training in plant maintenance with emphasis on industrial applications, or equivalent job experience in electricity, power distribution, industrial electrical wiring, mechanics, machine operations, general plumbing, HVAC, and boiler operations.
• At least 1 year of experience with PLC-based applications in an industrial environment.
• At least 1 year of plumbing, pipe fitting, pump repair, and pump rebuilding experience.
• Experience working with pumps, welding, bearings, electrical safety, forklifts, gears, hydraulics, valves, and rigging.
• Experience in a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) or Lean Six Sigma environment.
• Refrigeration certification.
• Hands-on welding experience.
• Experience with snow removal and related equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with operations and maintenance teams.
