Select Development Group (SDG) is a Naples, Florida-based general contractor delivering high-end residential and commercial construction across Collier, Lee, and Charlotte counties. Licensed under CGC
1525493, we operate in the luxury custom home, commercial, and public work sectors with a reputation built on craftsmanship, client experience, and strong trade partner relationships. We are in an intentional growth phase and looking for a leader who wants to build something, not just manage something.
This is a ground‑floor leadership role at a company with a defined vision and the commitment to execute it. The Director of Construction will serve as the senior operational leader at SDG, sitting between ownership and the project management and field teams. This person will own day-to-day construction operations, estimating oversight, and business development and will be a direct contributor to SDG’s growth trajectory.
The right candidate will not just fill a seat, they will help define how SDG operates you are looking for a platform to exercise full construction leadership, operations, preconstruction, people, and pipeline, this is it.
- Provide direct leadership and accountability to all Project Managers and Superintendents across active projects
- Establish and maintain consistent weekly reporting cadence; schedule, budget variance, owner communication
- Ensure projects are executed with clean starts, current schedules, proactive change order management, and margin discipline
- Identify and resolve field‑level issues before they upscale to the owner
- Conduct regular site visits across all active projects, knowing what is happening on every job
- Oversee the estimating process end to end; bid strategy, go/no‑go decisions, sub‑leveelling, and final review before submission
- Review and approve all estimates in collaboration with ownership
- Participate in preconstruction meetings, scope reviews, and owner presentations
- Develop and maintain relationships with key subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive, reliable pricing
- Leverage existing market relationships; architects, developers, civil engineers, economic development contacts, to originate negotiated commercial work
- Collaborate with the Business Development Manager on pipeline development, pursuit strategy, and client presentations
- Participate in industry events, association involvement, and community engagement to build SDG’s commercial market presence
- Earn BD commission on originated work per the compensation structure
- Build, mentor, and hold accountable a high-performing team of Project Managers and Superintendents
- Develop team members through structured performance conversations, clear expectations, and growth opportunities
- Champion SDG’s culture of craftsmanship, accountability, client experience, and margin discipline
- Reduce owner dependency by ensuring operational decisions are made at the appropriate level of the organization
- 10+ years of progressive construction leadership experience in commercial and/or high-end residential
- Demonstrated experience managing Project Managers and Superintendents across multiple simultaneous projects
- Proven track record of delivering projects on schedule, on budget, and to owner satisfaction
- Strong financial acumen – WIP schedule management, budget variance analysis, change order discipline
- Existing relationships in the SW Florida construction market; architects, developers, trade partners
- High proficiency in construction management software (Buildertrend, Procore, or equivalent)
- Exceptional communication skills; written, verbal, and in owner-facing settings
- Florida Certified General Contractor license (CGC)
- Experience scaling a construction company through a growth phase
- Background in both commercial and residential construction
- Experience with public sector and municipal work
This role is not for someone who wants to manage at arm's length. It is for someone who is energized by being close to the work, close to the team, and close to the outcome.
- You are a builder, not just a manager. You want to create something, not maintain something.
- You take pride in margin discipline and on-time delivery as much as in winning the work.
- You lead by being in the field, knowing what’s happening, and making decisions at the right level.
- You have relationships in this market and you know how to turn them into pipeline.
- You want ownership-level upside tied to the growth you drive.
- You are not looking for a company that already has everything figured out. You want to help figure it out.
