Position

Summary

The Center Assistant will support the Blair Visitor Center operations and guest services at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida. Responsibilities include admissions, Nature Store and Rooney Cafe sales, Spurlino Foundation Discovery Center operations, visitor and volunteer assistance, boardwalk closing and membership sales. The Center Assistant provides exceptional customer service by greeting visitors to the Center and providing accurate, helpful information about the Sanctuary.

This is a full-time, seasonal position, working up to 37.5 hours per week, from December 2026 through April 2027. This position is classified as on-site based at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida.

Compensation

$19.00 / hour

Essential Functions
  • Deliver excellent customer service; contributing to a welcoming environment for all guests, visitors, members, volunteers, and event attendees coming through the Blair Visitor Center.
  • Support retail, admission, and other operations throughout the Blair Visitor Center.
  • Promote, sell, and renew memberships.
  • Proactively assesses visitor needs.
  • Manage the Center’s main phone line and expedite calls to appropriate departments or staff members.
  • Address challenging situations with professionalism and respect, escalating issues to the Supervisor as needed.
  • Provide up-to-date information to visitors regarding special events, tours, the Nature Store, Rooney Café, Spurlino Foundation Discovery Center, boardwalk, and other Sanctuary activities.
  • Develop an understanding of the ecology and natural history of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.
  • Responsible for processing all cash and credit card transactions.
  • Assist with special events.
  • Assist with end of day facility closure by clearing the Sanctuary campus and boardwalk to ensure all visitors have safely exited.
  • Maintain and foster a culture of safety.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • GED or high school diploma required and 0-1 years of experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Experience fostering inclusive and collaborative work environments is valued.
  • Experience in a customer service, retail, or administrative support role.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, potentially noisy environment.
  • Must work well in a team and professionally represent Audubon to the public and volunteers.
  • Able to follow directions and work autonomously.
  • Ability to quickly learn a point of sale/ticketing database.
  • Ability to handle cash and credit card transactions accurately.
  • A moderate understanding of computer platforms, including MS Office, Outlook and other web-based applications.
  • Ability to maneuver up to 25 lbs. with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to traverse at least 2-3 miles by foot or electric trike in a variety of weather conditions, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
