POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Librarian will work closely with the Principal Librarian to provide support for the day-to-day operations of the Naples Philharmonic Library, contributing to the creation of exceptional symphonic music and patron experiences. As part of the Artistic Operations team, this position will assist our Music Director, conductors, musicians, guest artists, and staff.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in all aspects of music preparation, including but not limited to marking edits and cuts, transferring bowings, adding rehearsal systems, adjusting page turns, proofreading and correcting errata.
- Proficient with photocopying/scanning/printing, binding music and reparations of parts and scores.
- Assist with accurate data entry, library project planning, music acquisitions, publisher licensing, bowing circulation, and coordinating tasks with library volunteers.
- Assemble orchestra folders for concerts, ensure all is in good order and disassemble following performances.
- Check and confirm incoming/outgoing music for completeness and ensure the timely return of rented and borrowed materials.
- Attend assigned rehearsals and concerts, arriving at least one hour prior, ensuring the musicians have the necessary materials, conductor’s scores/batons to and from the stage, assist the crew with music during stage changes, time performances and collect music post-performance.
- Assist with audition music preparations and auditions as needed.
- Maintain the database and catalogue of library holdings including orchestral, chamber and chorus music.
- Maintain the collection of scores and parts, both physical and digital.
- Organize and submit ASCAP and BMI concert reporting.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree is required, with music degree in performance, composition or conducting preferred.
- Two years of ensemble librarianship experience required, with professional orchestra library experience preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain meticulous attention to details, excellent organizational skills, work neatly and efficiently, prioritize tasks, problem-solve and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible night and weekend hours.
- Thorough knowledge of orchestral literature, foreign terms, musical terms/signs, bow markings and contemporary notation.
- Ability to read/write music in different clefs and transpositions, transcribe parts, copy orchestra parts legibly and quickly using hand manuscript and computer notation software.
- Familiarity with score editions and reference sources, enabling performance from materials meeting the highest scholarly standards.
- Experience with image-editing software such as Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop.
- Computer proficiency with Office software, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
