Job Title
Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
Job SummaryProvides physical therapy treatment and interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT). Assists in implementing individualized treatment plans designed to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, prevent disability, and promote overall patient wellness. Collaborates with the rehabilitation team to deliver high‑quality patient care across various clinical settings, including outpatient, inpatient, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, home health, and other healthcare environments.
Requirements- Education:
Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. - Licensure/Certification:
Current Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license in the state of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required according to facility policy. - Experience:
Previous Physical Therapist Assistant experience preferred. Experience in outpatient orthopedics, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, home health, acute care, or other therapy settings preferred. Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred.
- Provide physical therapy treatments under the supervision and direction of a licensed Physical Therapist.
- Implement individualized treatment plans established by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Assist patients in improving mobility, strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and functional independence.
- Instruct and supervise patients in therapeutic exercises, functional activities, gait training, transfer training, and use of assistive devices.
- Monitor patient progress and report changes in condition or treatment response to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Accurately document treatment sessions, patient progress, goals, and clinical observations in accordance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment plans, home exercise programs, injury prevention, and safe mobility techniques.
- Maintain patient safety while providing therapy services and adhere to infection prevention, HIPAA, and facility policies.
- Prepare treatment areas, maintain therapy equipment, and ensure a clean, organized, and safe rehabilitation environment.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, continuing education, departmental meetings, and staff development as assigned.
- May provide therapy services in outpatient, inpatient, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, home health, or other clinical settings based on facility needs and within the scope of practice.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
