Communications Equipment & Radio Specialist
We are seeking a Communications Equipment & Radio Specialist to support a highly collaborative, fast-paced operational environment responsible for maintaining critical communications equipment and radio systems that support day-to-day operations across multiple facilities and field environments. This role is ideal for candidates with experience supporting radio communications systems, telecommunications equipment, and technical field support environments, with particular emphasis on Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems and general communications equipment troubleshooting.
Candidates with 2+ years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply, while individuals with 5+ years of experience will also be strongly considered. The team is open to candidates across multiple experience levels and willing to train individuals with solid foundational experience and strong technical aptitude, but this is not an entry-level opportunity. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, eager to learn, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and willing to support both field-based work as well as technical work performed in an office or equipment shop environment.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, configure, and support two-way radio systems and communications equipment used in daily operations
- Support and maintain Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, radio software, and associated communications infrastructure
- Install, diagnose, and repair portable radios, mobile radios, repeaters, antennas, and related communications equipment
- Perform equipment testing, preventative maintenance, firmware updates, and system troubleshooting on communications devices
- Provide hands-on field support at multiple operational sites and assist with installation or replacement of communications equipment as needed
- Assist with troubleshooting dispatch-related communications systems and other mission-critical communications infrastructure
- Maintain documentation, inventory records, service history, and equipment tracking for communications assets
- Assist with evaluating and recommending upgrades, replacements, or improvements to communications equipment and supporting technologies
- Support communications operations during urgent operational situations or other high-priority technical events
- Participate in on-call or after-hours support when operationally necessary
- Work collaboratively with team members in a highly hands-on environment where priorities can shift quickly and flexibility is important
- Assist other technical team members wherever support is needed as part of a highly collaborative team environment
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on technical experience supporting radio systems, communications equipment, telecommunications infrastructure, or related technical environments
- Candidates with 5+ years of experience strongly encouraged to apply
- Experience working with Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems strongly preferred
- Familiarity troubleshooting two-way radios, portable/mobile radios, repeaters, radio software, or radio programming platforms preferred
- Experience supporting mission-critical communications environments is highly preferred
- Familiarity with Cisco IP Phones, Cisco Webex, VoIP systems, or unified communications platforms is a plus but not required
- Experience working in public sector, public safety, utilities, telecommunications, or other operationally critical environments is a plus but not required
- General understanding of telecommunications systems, network connectivity, or communications infrastructure preferred
- Valid driver's license with ability to travel locally between operational sites
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities with excellent problem-solving skills
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL)
- Telecommunications or radio systems certifications
- Motorola or other radio communications certifications
- Cisco Collaboration, Cisco VoIP, or Unified Communications certifications
- Networking certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or similar
- Approximately 50% field work / 50% office or equipment shop environment
- Local travel between multiple operational sites required
- Occasional after-hours, on-call, weekend, or emergency support may be required depending on operational needs
- Fast-paced environment where adaptability and willingness to assist the broader team is critical
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation as part of the hiring process
- Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening requirements
- Must be comfortable working in a secure and highly regulated operational environment
- Must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and discretion
