Responsibilities
  • Supervises maintenance/repair activities and operation of equipment associated with various projects within the Water Division of the County.
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates daily work activities for workers engaged in operating equipment and performing maintenance/repair work. Organizes, prioritizes, assigns work, monitors status, inspects completed work, consults with staff, assists with complex situations, and provides technical expertise.
  • Ensures adherence to safety procedures, monitors environment and use of equipment, conducts safety meetings, implements MOT plans, coordinates safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs, and reports incidents.
  • Supervises, prioritizes, schedules, and coordinates projects; initiates/responses to work orders; determines necessary equipment, materials, and manpower; prepares cost estimates; plans activities to minimize downtime; dispatches crew or equipment; monitors progress; inspects completed work; reports problems or emergencies.
  • Coordinates projects and work activities with other Departments, contractors, utility companies, outside agencies or others as needed.
  • Conducts inspections of systems, equipment, buildings, or other facilities to identify problems and necessary repairs; reviews maintenance records and inspection reports to monitor status.
  • Plans schedules for regular maintenance work, preventive maintenance work, and special maintenance projects.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and materials; monitors levels; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; obtains competitive bids and quotes.
  • Performs administrative tasks; provides budgetary input; assists in monitoring expenditures; reviews invoices for accuracy; researches discrepancies; approves payment; reviews logs/forms; develops work schedules; reviews timecards; researches information; makes recommendations; assists in developing procedures.
  • Oversees and monitors work of contracted service providers; inspects work for quality and compliance with contracts; reviews payment requests; recommends payment.
  • Supervises and assists in performing tasks involving water utilities maintenance and water distribution systems projects; oversees facility operations of outlying potable booster facilities; troubleshoots telemetry and outlying stations.
  • Oversees activities to locate utility lines; reviews as-built drawings; oversees construction management, preventive maintenance, and valve maintenance; system maintenance; cross-connection control; coordinates isolations; oversees field mapping; develops and maintains mandated cross-connection control inspection program; ensures compliance with Florida Administrative Code  and other laws; manages response to asset failures; ensures work meets County technical standards; works with third party engineers.
  • Performs general/manual tasks associated with Division projects.
  • Performs quality control inspections to ensure quality of division work, products, or operations.
  • Responds to complaints and questions related to division activities; researches problems; formulates and initiates plan of action to correct problems/issues.
  • Coordinates response to after-hours emergency calls when scheduled for on-call duty.
  • Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with Department projects.
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep equipment and tools operable.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
    * required.
  • Five (5) years of related experience.
  • Fingerprinting required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Class 2 Water Distribution Technician certification.
  • Valid Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification.
  • Valid FDOT Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification.
  • May require valid IMSA Signs and Markings certification.
  • May require valid IMSA Work Zone Safety certification.
  • May require FDOT Traffic Safety in the Work Area certification.
  • May require certification or licensing based on area of assignment.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
