POSITION OVERVIEW

As Project Director at LJA Environmental, you will oversee Business Development within the market area, including Florida and surrounding states. You will build the service line, lead and manage a team of Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and junior staff, and provide mentoring, training, and performance reviews. You will oversee large, complex, or high‑profile projects, ensuring completion within scope, schedule, and budget.

You will develop, review, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and report formats; review and edit technical reports; serve as primary client liaison, manage client relationships, negotiations, collections, and issue resolution; drive business development efforts, including proposal preparation, budgeting, marketing event participation and growth with existing and potential clients; and be accountable for the financial performance of the organization unit, including profitability, expenses, revenue forecasting, projections and budget development in collaboration with Vice Presidents.

Your role also includes reviewing and approving timesheets, expense reports, budgets, invoices, and billings, attending quarterly division meetings, client meetings, and marketing events, assisting executive leadership with long‑term strategic planning and organizational goals, and serving as a technical authority within the department.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE
  • Carrying out site investigations, collecting, processing, and evaluating off‑site and on‑site data, and interpreting biological, physical, chemical, geographical, and geological data for environmental reports and work plans.
  • Interviewing, managing, and training additional staff as needed.
  • Coordinating with external scientists, engineers, and regulators, providing technical assistance for project design alternatives, and maintaining project standards per regulatory guidelines.
  • Preparing and performing quality assurance/quality control of technical reports, and preparing progress reports.
  • Coordinating with suppliers, fieldwork coordinators, subcontractors, and other field staff, supervising field work for project completion.
  • Preparing Level of Effort estimates and scopes of work, coordinating subconsultant LOEs and scopes, and preparing proposals and subconsultant agreements.
  • Managing contract discussions with third‑party contractors, local planning authorities, and other project personnel to carry out responsibilities efficiently.
  • Using and updating data guidance documents and tool kits for compliance with all regulatory entities for technical reports and NEPA documents.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science;
    Master’s preferred in Marine Biology, Rangeland Ecology, Ecology, Soil Science, Geography, or related fields.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of CWA, ESA, ASTM, and NEPA processes, including permitting and mitigation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build strong relationships.
  • 15+ years of experience.
