Overview
Assists the physician in the care and teaching of patients.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities- Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
- Write prescriptions for medication and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and care post‑discharge in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Determine patients’ eligibility for entry into clinical trials.
- Interpret and evaluate findings of studies and tests.
- Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
- Administer therapeutic measures and obtain specimens as prescribed.
- Dictate follow‑up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
- Write patient history, admissions, progress notes, and discharge notes in a timely manner.
- Assist in managing family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patient care.
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds for assigned patients to ensure appropriate and quality care.
- Provide on‑call coverage and perform hospital rounds as needed.
- Triage patients to determine the urgency of physician evaluation.
- Document and report care accurately and promptly using appropriate forms and records.
- Assist staff during crises or emergencies.
- Represent the organization to the public, promoting cancer treatment services.
- Prioritize work, assign tasks, and ensure proper completion of assignments.
- Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations regarding patient privacy, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
- Adhere to department policies and procedures, including IT policies and disaster recovery plans.
- Keep work area and records neat and orderly; maintain equipment in a safe condition.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information per HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in training new employees for related job duties.
- Work at any facility location as directed by collaborating physicians.
- Work overtime when provided sufficient notice of required overtime.
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, master’s degree in nursing, or post‑masters nurse practitioner certificate program.
- Current license/registration to practice in the state of Florida with prescriptive privileges or eligibility to apply.
- Certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation (ONCC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Leadership skills to direct others toward objectives that contribute to successful patient treatment.
- Analytical skills to evaluate patients’ status, healthcare procedures/techniques, and monitor quality of patient care.
- Fiscal skills to monitor and control costs and revenue.
- Sound judgment and discretion while performing duties.
- Analysis and critical thinking.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication.
- Solid time management with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to collaborate across various levels of management, departments, and teams.
- Comfortable negotiating problems and exploring solutions with the physician population.
