About the Role

The Bureau of Field Operations is responsible for the survey and certification process of health care facilities across the State of Florida. These surveys ensure that all state licensed and federally certified health care facilities meet state and federal requirements, ensuring safe, quality health care for patients and residents. Field Operations staff also ensure resident safety during emergencies such as natural disasters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections using the established survey process.
  • Evaluate health care facilities for state licensure and federal certification requirements for Medicare/Medicaid participation.
  • Document findings and complete written reports of survey findings.
  • Perform surveys as an individual, team member, or team leader.
  • Complete the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Work during weekends, holidays, and disaster situations as required.
  • Assist in emergency work in other counties or staffing locations.
  • Travel extensively, including significant overnight travel.
  • Maintain a good attendance record; report to work daily and on time.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of state licensure and federal certification survey requirements.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and analyze data.
  • Ability to develop and implement programs monitoring methodologies and techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Skills in oral communication, attentive listening, interview procedures, team dynamics, and performance evaluations/reviews.
  • Ability to utilize microcomputer equipment and software to enter, retrieve, and manipulate data.
  • Ability to travel with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensure as a registered professional nurse in Florida (Florida Statute 464).
  • Two years of professional nursing experience.
