JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse at our Vascular Surgery Office will independently plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. Provides direct nursing care to patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Triage patients, verify allergies, symptoms & pharmacy. Utilizes nursing process to develop patient’s plan of care which includes assessment, re‑assessments, implementations, planning, evaluation and patient teaching.
- Demonstrate knowledge of safe medication administration; administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize and organize patient care.
- Provide timely and accurate documentation reflecting clinic standards.
- Observe, record and report patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. Proficient in Power chart.
- Prepare equipment and assist physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
- Review lab and diagnostic test results with patients. Provide patient & family education regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness.
- Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests.
- Maintain/review patient records, charts and other pertinent information in Power chart. Post tests and examination results in EMR.
- Schedule OP radiology procedures; generate referrals to promote health as requested by physician.
- Perform blood draws, urine dips, rapid streps, influenza, mono, CMP, CBC, cardiac inhalation treatments. Start IV, bladder catheters, injections, EKGs, dressing changes and splinting.
- Handle specimens, perform lab testing in a timely manner. Verify results in Power chart. Daily & monthly QC controls for the Picollo, Abx, Biosite, & Status. Calibrate instruments. Participate with proficiency testing. Verify integrity and dating of all lab reagents. Confirm abnormal results with Physician on duty.
- Know where all procedures are located and follow as written for any lab performance, documenting all corrective actions associated with quality control, instrumentation and proficiency testing.
- Assist in ordering of reagents, lab supplies, and medical supplies.
- Clean all surgical instruments and package up to send for sterilization.
- Audit charts daily for missing charges and diagnosis.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of Associate’s Degree required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a health care facility or private physician office.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Intermediate computer knowledge:
Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
