Job Summary

Leads and manages center store department (dry grocery, general merchandise, alcohol, dairy and frozen food) operations and associates to execute company best practices to maximize sales and profitability. Oversees the processes for inventory control, receiving product, planogram integrity and pricing to ensure efficiency, accuracy and compliance for company policies and municipal/state/federal laws. Creates a shopping and working environment that exemplifies the company’s commitment to and vision of service, quality and neighborhood partnerships.

Increases customer confidence and loyalty to the company by promoting clean and consistent operating conditions, courteous and prompt service. Values diversity and supports an inclusive environment by embracing the backgrounds and experiences of the team. This is a working management position that requires a balance of physical labor, delegation, team building, leadership, planning, and administrative work.

Key Performance Indicators
  • Overall Customer Satisfaction OSAT (Grocery) – Gauges the customer experience in areas of assortment, cleanliness, freshness, staff friendliness and stock availability.
  • On Shelf Availability – Ensures all processes are followed to allow customers to purchase their needs.
  • Date Check Percent – Ensures the freshest product by following processes to increase sales, decrease shrink, and improve profits.
Essential Responsibilities

Store Leadership

  • Leads and empowers teams to deliver a great shopping experience aligned with the company’s vision, goals, expectations, and policies; maintains open communication for ideas and feedback; establishes professional relationships with customers, associates, schools, vendors, suppliers and regulatory agencies.

Fiscal Leadership

  • Manages in-stock conditions, inventory, shrink, pricing, receiving and expenses including labor and supply management. Maximizes sales and profits by ensuring effective display and sales techniques, efficient ordering, scheduling and work planning. Provides guidance in product and supply ordering, equipment setup, department organization and vendor assistance.

Department Leadership

  • Delegates authority, responsibility and accountability to managers; trains and coaches on KPIs, product stocking, customer service, product knowledge, suggestive selling, safety and sanitation. Communicates progress and recommendations; uses initiative and sound judgment to address opportunities and issues. Ensures policies and directives are communicated and executed; aligns operations with health, safety and sanitation codes.

Associate Leadership

  • Supports hiring and training execution; ensures recruitment follows pro-active techniques; oversees onboarding and new hire training; coaches and holds associates accountable; ensures adherence to employment laws and company policies.

Safety And Compliance

  • Adheres to regulatory requirements for food safety, USDA & COOL; executes recalls promptly; cultivates a culture of safety; ensures safety training and PPE usage; maintains equipment safety and remediation of hazards.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years relevant experience (Business or related field)

  • English

Relevant Experience

  • Supervisory

    Experience:

    3 - 6 yrs minimum (required); 1 - 5 yrs minimum (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same
  • Pre-employment drug testing and background check
  • Proficient with computer applications used in operating the department
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational and communication skills
  • Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain within 180 days
  • High standard of integrity and reliability

Retail - Location Management:
Physical Demands and Working Conditions vary; employees may stand, walk, bend, reach, lift up to specified weights, and work in indoor/outdoor environments with varying temperatures. Safety equipment and PPE are required as appropriate. Equipment may include cleaning supplies, registers, scales, scanners, and department-specific tools. Travel and hours vary; may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Travel Percent – Occasional; Overnight – No. Shift(s) – Varied shifts, including morning, afternoon, evening and closing shifts; minimum one closing shift per week.
