Collier Mosquito Control District is hiring! We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Field Validation Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a research-driven professional to lead field validation efforts, support operational research, and contribute to innovative mosquito control strategies. Description

The Manager of Field Validation plays a critical leadership role in advancing CMCD’s mission by managing and conducting field validation of mosquito control treatments and operational research
. This position bridges research and operations, ensuring mosquito control strategies are scientifically sound, operationally effective, and compliant with regulatory standards. In this role, you will design and lead applied research projects, oversee field validation personnel, manage pesticide resistance programs, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners across academia, industry, and government. Your work will directly influence mosquito control practices, safeguard public health, and enhance the District’s research and operational capabilities.

The District

The Collier Mosquito Control District serves approximately 730 square miles in Southwest Florida. Our organization is driven by a multidisciplinary team committed to advancing public health through applied science and innovation. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues across Operations, Research, Finance, and Administration, contributing to coordinated efforts that support effective field activities and organizational excellence. Your contributions will play a key role in sustaining safe, efficient operations and reinforcing the District’s commitment to protecting the quality of life of residents in Collier County.

The Person We Are Looking for Will Have
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex scientific information clearly
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and digital presentation tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively with large audiences and media outlets (television, radio, print)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mosquito taxonomy, biology, and integrated mosquito control practices
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate hypotheses and apply appropriate research methodologies to generate actionable data
  • General mechanical aptitude, including use of basic hand and power tools (e.g., wrenches, voltmeters, flowmeters)
  • Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing English, including technical and scientific terminology
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Master’s degree in Entomology or a related scientific field from an accredited institution (PhD preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of mosquito control experience (PhD may substitute for experience)
  • Ability to obtain a Florida Public Health Pest Control License within six (6) months of employment
  • Valid Florida Class “E” Driver’s License with a clean driving record

This full-time, non-exempt, hourly position offers a competitive wage commensurate with experience and includes performance reviews at 60 days, 90 days, and annually thereafter. This position requires frequent handling of pesticides and fieldwork in remote areas in the hot and humid environment of Southwest Florida with exposure to biting insects and hazardous wildlife as part of a team.
