The Electrical Technician Helper supports Storm Smart’s electrical team in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring and components used in motorized and automated hurricane protection systems. This entry‑level, hands‑on role is ideal for someone eager to build a career in the electrical field while working alongside experienced technicians on residential and commercial projects. The role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, code‑compliant installations, organized job sites, and a positive customer experience.
Key Responsibilities & Duties- Assist electrical technicians in the installation of electrical wiring and components for storm protection systems.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and local building codes.
- Carry and organize materials, tools, and equipment needed for each job.
- Support troubleshooting efforts for electrical issues related to motorized and automated hurricane protection systems.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and tools.
- Follow instructions to install or repair electrical systems in residential or commercial properties.
- Provide excellent customer service, including answering basic questions from customers on the installation process.
- Strong working knowledge of residential and light commercial electrical systems.
- Experience installing, wiring, and connecting electrical components, motors, controls, and low‑voltage systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues and safely diagnose system failures.
- Working knowledge of NEC and local electrical codes.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, meters, and testing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work safely on job sites, following PPE and safety protocols.
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Professional, dependable, and customer‑focused.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Electrical trade school, technical training, or apprenticeship program.
- OSHA 10 preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- 2+ years of electrical experience in residential or light commercial environments preferred.
- Hands‑on experience with electrical installations, wiring, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with motorized systems, automation, or low‑voltage controls preferred.
- Familiarity with electrical tools, testing equipment, and field documentation.
- Prior construction or field service experience required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- No major violations or preventable infractions within the past five (5) years.
- Ability to operate company vehicles in a safe and professional manner.

The work environment for this position predominantly involves construction sites, where the employee can expect exposure to fluctuating noise levels ranging from moderate to loud, as well as exposure to various weather elements.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies, and exert 70 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls and machinery; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, to wear and work in personnel protective equipment.
