Pay Range: $23.25/hr + DOE
Shift: Monday-Saturday 5:30a Start;
One weekday off
Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks with front, side, or rear-end load attachments depending on the line of business and truck type. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pickup service for containers filled with waste or recyclable material. Containers may weigh over 1,000 pounds and may require maneuvering wheeled containers to a pickup area.
Drivers navigate high-traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots; highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential. Residential Drivers collect residential waste or recyclables and must safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll-off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large open-top and compactor containers from customer locations and may operate in tight overhead environments on industrial routes. Backing maneuvers are essential for success in this role.
- Operates vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA and DOT requirements, and local, state, and federal laws.
- Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks using the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
- Immediately reports unsafe situations or service-related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attends and participates in scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Works with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notifies Operations Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notifies Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed streets, heavy receptacles, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicates customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dumps all receptacles and leaves the customer’s location clean and debris-free.
- Follows route assignments and completes end-of-day documentation and checkout process.
- Performs all duties as scheduled and assists other drivers as needed to meet customer requirements.
A. Required Qualifications
- 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or 1 year of eligible military driving within the last 7 years
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
- (CDL) Class A with an air-brake endorsement upon hire, or
- (CDL) Class B with an air-brake endorsement upon hire
