Responsibilities- Drive and operate vehicles, tractors, and specialized equipment to transport materials, perform maintenance, upkeep, and construction projects.
- Operate roll‑off container trucks to haul materials to and from sites, maneuver and position vehicles, connect and operate loading mechanisms, ensure proper load distribution and support, secure doors and gates, and dump material at designated locations.
- Operate various equipment and vehicles to transport materials for construction, demolition, and metal work.
- Assist and operate equipment for maintenance and upkeep of county property, utilities, rights‑of‑way, and other infrastructure; drive over public roads, work sites, parks, public works facilities; maneuver in and around traffic and obstacles; obey traffic laws and safety guidelines; monitor environment to ensure operator, workers, equipment, and public safety.
- Safely operate roll‑off, skid steer, mower, backhoe, and other equipment for maintenance and upkeep tasks.
- Operate street sweepers along a prescribed route; maneuver safely in traffic; adjust brushes for proper angle and height; maintain proper curb distance for coverage.
- Drive low‑boy and other tractor‑trailer rigs to transport heavy construction equipment and materials; maneuver equipment to load and unload from trailer with proper positioning for safe transport.
- Inspect and prepare equipment for safe operation; perform light maintenance such as oil changes, refueling, lubricants, clean vehicles, beds, and mounted equipment; secure vehicle after use.
- Operate vehicles and equipment in lower classifications as needed to complete division or department projects and workload.
- Perform basic and semi‑skilled labor for maintenance, upkeep, and construction projects; pick up debris; use hand tools and motorized tools; install or maintain street signs; manually load, move, and arrange materials.
- Clean and maintain vehicles or equipment in operating order.
- Acquire supplies as needed.
- Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance such as oil changes and greasing parts; perform minor repairs including light welding or fabrication on equipment and vehicles.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One (1) year of related experience.
- Fingerprinting required.
- Must possess and maintain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) appropriate for area of assignment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident‑by‑incident basis.
