Plant Superintendent – Manufacturing Operations (Napoleon, OH)

Silgan Containers, North America’s leading producer of metal food packaging, is hiring a Plant Superintendent to supervise plant-level manufacturing operations, safety, quality, labor performance, and employee relations in a union manufacturing environment.

What You Will Do
  • Oversee plant production, quality, safety, labor utilization, and material usage
  • Review product quality inspection reports and take corrective action to maintain quality standards
  • Analyze written and verbal production reports to improve efficiency and performance
  • Lead plant safety programs, policies, and procedures
  • Enforce safety, housekeeping, and operational standards
  • Maintain positive union and management relations through consistent administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Develop in‑depth working knowledge of union contracts and labor agreements
  • Provide direction to 5–10 direct reports
  • Promote clear and effective communication across all levels of plant personnel
  • Assist the Plant Manager with operating budgets and capital expenditure planning
  • Evaluate manufacturing operations and initiate improvements when gaps are identified
  • Review labor and material usage data to drive continuous improvement
  • Manage recruitment, training, development, and retention efforts
  • Conduct routine performance evaluations and provide actionable feedback
  • Oversee inbound and outbound product flow to ensure smooth plant operations
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Plant Manager
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree
  • Manufacturing management experience in a plant or production environment
  • Strong understanding of safety programs, quality systems, and production operations
  • Experience working in a union manufacturing environment with collective bargaining exposure
  • Knowledge of SPC and basic quality management tools and systems
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with hourly employees, supervisors, and management
  • Self‑directed style with a team‑focused mindset
  • Understanding of can manufacturing components and equipment (preferred)
  • Willingness to grow within the organization, including potential relocation
