Paraprofessional (also called a teacher assistant) supports teachers and students by providing instructional, behavioral, and classroom assistance.

Position SummaryParaprofessionals play an essential role in supporting students from pre‑kindergarten through post‑graduate transition programs. For the 26‑27 school year, positions will be assigned to Narragansett Elementary School and special education. Working alongside teachers and related service providers, paraprofessionals help create safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environments where every student is encouraged to grow, develop independence, and reach their full potential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist teachers in implementing classroom instruction, facilitating daily learning activities, and preparing instructional materials and technology to support student learning.
- Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group instructional support to reinforce students' academic, social, behavioral, communication, and functional skill development.
- Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, behavior support plans, and instructional strategies under the direction of certified staff.
- Foster student independence, self‑confidence, positive behavior, and self‑advocacy through consistent encouragement, respectful interactions, and evidence‑based support practices.
- Assist students with communication, mobility, personal care, feeding, toileting, hygiene, and other activities of daily living in accordance with district policies, student plans, and safety procedures.
- Adapt effectively to the changing needs of students, instructional settings, schedules, and assignments while maintaining flexibility, patience, and a positive, student‑centered approach.
- Supervise and support students in a variety of school settings, including classrooms, lunch, recess, arrival and dismissal, field trips, community‑based instruction, vocational experiences, and other school‑sponsored activities.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families, communicating student progress, concerns, and successes in a professional and respectful manner, as appropriate.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student records, information, and interactions in accordance with district policies and all applicable state and federal laws, including FERPA.
- Support students from pre‑kindergarten through post‑graduate transition programs in developing the academic, social, functional, vocational, and independent living skills needed to achieve their individual goals.
- Promote an inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environment that values the dignity, strengths, and diverse needs of every student.
