Marine Research Specialist II

Perform experimental and developmental work in support of major research programs. Responsible for the planning, operation, and management of significant experimental/research programs.

Key duties and responsibilities include using established analytical, experimental and investigative methods and techniques, collecting, processing, monitoring and analyzing samples and/or data linked to trace organic compounds in water, sediment/soil, biota and air, maintaining laboratory and research instruments for conformance with research priorities and safety concerns, preparing and publishing manuscripts containing results of research efforts, developing experimental procedures and techniques for resolution of unique scientific/research problems in the field of pollutant sampling and detection in the field, assisting in supervisory and administrative duties related to research programs, providing guidance and assistance to graduate students and supervising undergraduate research assistants, assisting in fieldwork for projects within lab with focuses other than pollutant sampling, and performing additional duties as required.

Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Chemical Oceanography, Chemistry or related field, minimum two years of relevant research support experience, demonstrated experience in an area of specialization, strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, proficiency in written communication skills, organizational skills, ability to work with diverse groups/populations, ability to work at sea as needed, and a valid driver's license.

Preferred qualifications include experience in field-based sampling platforms and experience in LC-MS/MS or GC-MS instrument operation and maintenance.
