Position: Ocean Career: Assistant Marine Development Engineer at the University of Rhode Island

Oceanographic Equipment Technician

Under supervision, design, test, calibrate, and operate laboratory and oceanographic equipment and instrumentation, with troubleshooting, operating, and repairing associated mechanical and electronic systems.

Perform non-routine engineering tasks as they arise.

Order components and maintain an inventory of components and supplies for instrument maintenance and fabrication.

Assist with instrument maintenance and fabrication.

Organize logistics for shipping, fieldwork, and cruise preparations.

Participate in scientific research cruises and other marine fieldwork.

Write reports on instrumentation operation, development, and testing.

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.

Minimum two years of professional electronics experience.

Demonstrated computer skills (i.e., Matlab, AutoCAD, database management and spreadsheets).

Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

Willingness to work at sea or in the field for extended periods of time.

Demonstrated experience with logistics support for oceanographic or other field programs.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Demonstrated experience with aquaculture system design.

Demonstrated experience with biological, experimental, and sampling systems.

Demonstrated experience with marine robotics and deep-submergence vehicles.

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions, but the incumbent will be required to go to sea on a variety of US and foreign ships and/or do other marine fieldwork for extended periods.

The search will remain open until the position has been filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by September 9, 2022. Second consideration may be given to applications received by October 7, 2022. Applications received subsequent to second consideration date (October 7, 2022) may not be given full consideration.

Pay Grade Range: $50,820 – $76,151 Campus
