Assistant Professor In Biology

Rivier University is seeking an Assistant Professor in Biology responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in biology and related sciences, including immunology, physics, and physical science. This position requires a strong interdisciplinary foundation and the ability to integrate biological concepts with physical and chemical principles. The teacher will support student learning through engaging instruction, laboratory experiences, and evidence-based teaching practices aligned with curriculum standards.

Duties

And Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Teach courses in biology, with the demonstrated ability to instruct or support instruction in immunology, physics, and physical science as assigned.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with academic standards, program outcomes, and institutional goals.
  • Integrate interdisciplinary concepts, emphasizing the relationship between biological systems and physical science principles.
  • Design and supervise laboratory activities that promote scientific inquiry, safety, and hands-on learning.
  • Incorporate technology, data analysis, and current scientific research into instruction.
  • Assessment and Student Support

    • Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative methods.
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
    • Support diverse learners through differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies.
    • Offer academic support and mentoring during office hours or scheduled support sessions.

    Professional Responsibilities

    • Maintain compliance with laboratory safety standards and institutional policies.
    • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, interdisciplinary initiatives, and program improvement.
    • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and institutional service as required.
    • Stay current with advances in biology, immunology, and related physical sciences.
    Qualifications

    · Doctorate in Biology, Microbiology, Physics or related field.

    · Demonstrated content knowledge in immunology, physics, and physical science.

    · Teaching certification or eligibility for certification, as required by the employing institution.

    · Ability to teach laboratory-based science courses and enforce safety protocols.

    · Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior teaching experience at the secondary or postsecondary level.
    • Experience with interdisciplinary or STEM-focused curricula.
    • Familiarity with active learning methodologies and assessment best practices.

    Work Environment

    • Classroom and laboratory settings with potential exposure to biological and chemical materials.
    • May require standing for extended periods and supervising laboratory activities.
