Job Summary

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to serve in the Mother/Baby, GYN, Pedi, and basic Med‑Surg units with competencies in L&D or sick baby management. This RN will provide professional nursing care within an assigned unit, support medical staff, and promote Covenant Health Ministry values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain competencies on Mother/Baby, GYN, Pedi and basic Med‑Surg.
  • Maintain competencies in either L&D or ‘sick baby’ management (L&D track and/or Nursery track).
  • After training and competency completion, may train to the other track if desired; both sets of competencies must be maintained.
  • Support and promote the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Render professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit, in support of medical care as directed by medical staff and pursuant to objectives and policies of the hospital.
  • Comply in completion of all unit‑specific competencies and requirements required to care for all patients/patient types with the department.
  • Be involved in quality improvement planning and processes for the area of practice.
  • Complete clinical documentation and care plans comprehensively for all patients assigned in a timely manner.
  • Seek feedback regarding practice and take actions as appropriate.
  • Practice reflects knowledge of current practice standards (ANA, NH Nurse Practice Act, Specialty standards).
  • Communicate patient information appropriate for continuity and safe care through hand offs, walking rounds, and physician/provider interaction.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff by following established procedures and protocols.
  • Implement resources and initiatives in place or in process to improve patient safety.
  • Work within guidelines of Just Culture Environment to promote error reporting and adoption of safe practices.
  • Assure issues are addressed through appropriate use of the chain of command.
  • Complete appropriate rounding in collaboration with LNAs (Licensed Nursing Assistant) on all assigned patients.
  • Identify and assist in correction of patient care safety issues.
  • Recognize and praise excellent performance in colleagues and co‑workers when identified.
  • Build respectful relationships through early and pro‑active identification of concerns, compliments or suggestions.
  • Collaborate unit to unit and shift to shift for resolution of conflicts and issues in a timely manner.
  • Consult with nurses in other department/units to draw upon expertise in other clinical areas/specialties.
  • Display a professional, positive perspective at all times, even when faced with difficult circumstances.
  • Seek opportunities to assist all team members.
  • Show willingness to resolve tension within the unit or department, for example, by volunteering to accept an admission or adjust an assignment.
  • Demonstrate practice consistent with the tenets of shared governance and the philosophy of the unit and the organization.
  • Assist with solution identification in response to problems and conflicts.
  • Effectively delegate aspects of care and unit activities to other nursing personnel.
  • Collaborate in planning, supervising, and instructing other nurses and assistants.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing students and instructors.
  • Participate in peer review of colleagues.
  • Demonstrate characteristics of the SPIRIT of St. Joseph Hospital with a commitment to co‑workers and hold peers accountable.
  • Avoid use of unauthorized overtime.
  • Manage ETO per policy.
  • Other duties as consistent with this role.
Job Requirements Job Knowledge and Skills
  • STABLE course completion certification preferred or obtained prior to completion of orientation.
  • K2 Maternity Crisis Modules required by 6 months post hire or prior to specialty track orientation completion (whichever is first).
  • Basic Fetal Monitoring required by 6 months post hire or prior to L&D specialty track orientation completion (whichever is first).
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or K2 Fetal Monitoring module completion required or obtained prior to completion of orientation.
