About

you & role:

The Cost Accountant is responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing and production costing analysis, as well as inventory management across all business locations. This role focuses on analyzing standard costs versus actual costs, identifying variances, and providing clear explanations across customers, PLUs, and production jobs within the Sage X3 ERP system.

The Cost Accountant works closely with cross‑functional teams including R&D, Procurement, and Manufacturing to investigate discrepancies, resolve variances, and ensure accurate costing. Additionally, this role plays a key role in maintaining and updating BOMs within Sage X3 to ensure accurate production inputs and cost structures.

  • Analytical Thinking & Attention to Detail - Ability to analyze large datasets, identify cost variances, and provide accurate, data‑driven insights.
  • ERP & Technical Proficiency - Strong experience with ERP systems (Sage X3) and advanced Excel skills to manage costing, reporting, and data accuracy.
  • Business Partnering & Communication - Ability to collaborate with R&D, Procurement, and Operations
    , clearly explain variances, and influence decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting ERP system (Sage X3) to ensure accurate product costing and data integrity
  • Produce daily production, variance, and ad‑hoc reports to support operational and financial decision‑making
  • Review and analyze standard versus actual costs, identify variances, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations
  • Update and maintain standard costs, ensuring accuracy within the Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Prepare, analyze, and report monthly gross margin analysis by customer, PLU, and production jobs within Sage X3
  • Analyze the impact of changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, and services on overall cost structures
  • Collect and study data related to raw materials, inventory, and labor to determine cost drivers and business activity costs
  • Perform account reconciliation for physical inventories and cycle counts to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare periodic inventory reserve reconciliations, assess inventory risks, and monitor with support from internal stakeholders
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes, including inventory analysis and preparation of supplemental reports
  • Participate in and support special projects and process improvements as required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
