Beginning Teacher Instructional Support Coach
OLPH Catholic School is seeking a Beginning Teacher Instructional Support Coach for elementary grades, providing 8 hours per week for 9 weeks. The coach will mentor and guide a cohort of new teachers (maximum of two) through one-on-one conversations, offer lesson plan support, and provide instructional modeling to enhance teaching practices focused on small group learning. The role also includes assisting with classroom management strategies and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment.
This position is ideal for an experienced educator passionate about empowering new teachers and promoting best practices in elementary education. The Coach will play a key role in encouraging professional growth and confidence among beginning teachers.
Responsibilities include:
- Gives examples; provides opportunities for first year teacher to observe instructional behavior; suggests alternatives.
- Helps beginning teachers explore ways to involve pupils in learning.
- Listens carefully and uses beginning teachers' responses to improve learning for pupils.
- Gives clarification and feedback by providing specific and general answers to questions.
- Assists beginning teachers in setting up routines and in understanding the school organization.
- Helps beginning teachers by demonstrating lessons for teaching specific learning objectives; likes to teach; monitors progress and impact of learning in the classroom.
- Helps beginning teachers to become self-evaluative.
- Provides appropriate materials and directs beginning teachers to in-school and community resources; shares ideas.
- Develops a relationship of trust, confidentiality and support; is there when needed.
- Provides instruction in specific knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in the field of education is required.
- Master's Degree in a related field is preferred.
Work Experience:
- Five (5) years of equivalent work experience in a relevant field required
- Experience as a teacher required
- Teacher leadership experience at the school and/or district office required
- Experience working in an urban school district or comparable governmental/public sector work preferred
- Experience in designing, presenting, and facilitating adult learning preferred
