Overview
Primary Vaccine Coordinator responsible for nursing services through the Department’s medical programs and for coordinating the Immunization Program and related duties across multiple clinics.
Responsibilities- Serves as the Primary Vaccine Coordinator.
- Provide nursing services through the Department’s medical programs across Maternal Health, Family Planning, Women’s Health, Adult Health, Child Health, Immunization, STD/HIV, Tuberculosis and Communicable Disease clinics.
- Essential Duties and Tasks include:
- Assessing, planning and coordinating the Immunization Program (VFC, State and Private).
- Vaccine management, storage, handling and administration.
- Maintain current immunization program policy and standing orders.
- Order, track and record inventory; reconcile immunizations with NCIR and EHR to ensure accurate daily counts.
- Plan and coordinate off-site immunization clinics; schedule, provide forms, notify and ensure sufficient personnel; manage inventory type/quantity and temperature maintenance; conduct targeted community outreach to expand off-site clinic offerings.
- Provide immunization reports to supervisors, health director, health educator, and state consultants; analyze disease prevalence, areas for improvement, possible outbreaks, and demographic or socioeconomic breakdowns related to vaccination health.
- Conduct program reviews, participate in audits and quality assurance.
- Prenatal Program – complete history, measure BP, order labs, provide education and counseling, dispense medications/vitamins, initiate referrals, document findings.
- Women’s Preventive Health Program – history, BP and lab orders, education and counseling on medical, psychosocial issues and birth control methods; dispense medications or contraceptives per policies; update immunizations; initiate referrals; document findings.
- Child Health Program – comprehensive history, screening (visual, hearing, growth), administer dental varnish and fluoride, order labs, document in medical records, dispense/administer vaccines per standing orders.
- STD/HIV Program – medical/sexual history, labs, education and counseling, treatment per policies, pre/post HIV counseling, update immunizations, document findings.
- Adult Health Program – medical history, BP/lab orders, education on chronic disease and prevention, dispense medications per standing orders, update immunizations, referrals, communicate results to patients.
- Other Duties – attend workshops, provide leadership to staff and students, assist with general clinic duties, maintain health records for employees across departments, complete vaccine reports, participate in QA teams and disaster site support.
Skills and Abilities
Strong nursing knowledge and public health principles; ability to interact tactfully, secure cooperation, gather information, maintain records, interpret reports and medical instructions; apply standing orders accurately.
Work Requirements and SupervisionOrientation of at least three weeks; ongoing education and updates; work daily with Program Lead Nurses; performance appraisals and QA reviews; supervision by Clinical Supervisor.
Qualifications- Required Education and Experience – Graduation from an accredited nursing program and one year of professional nursing experience.
- Additional Training/Experience – NC Credentialed Public Health Nursing Course, Public Health training series, nursing in North Carolina, Red Cross Disaster Training, ICS Training, CPR/CPR-Defibrillator, HIV counseling/testing.
- Equivalent Training and Experience – None.
- License or Certification – Current RN license in North Carolina; valid NC Driver’s License.
