Senior Accountant

Our client is a real estate developer and investor seeking a Senior Accountant to focus on their real estate portfolio. This is a pivotal role for the company, as you’ll be working directly with the CFO and helping in all aspects of accounting and finance for over 20 entities. This is a small organization where you’ll have direct access to executive leadership and a real voice in the direction of the company and its processes.

You’ll also work closely with the finance team and collaborate on the sale and acquisition of real estate investments.

The company focuses acquisition and growth projects across the U.S. This role will play a crucial part in delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting development projects, strengthening internal controls, and assisting with the tax process.

This is a great opportunity for someone with deep knowledge of real estate accounting who wants to work with an experienced team.

The goal with this role is to hire someone who can take ownership, run with it, and evolve into a Controller position.

• Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) across multiple entities
• Monitor project budgets and P&L variances
• Post journal entries, accruals, and prepaid schedules
• Complete bank, intercompany, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Record and reconcile acquisitions and dispositions
• Execute month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close
• Manage AP/AR processing, invoicing, and revenue posting
• Maintain reporting tied to receivables, payables, and portfolio performance
• Support audits and tax preparation with schedules and documentation
• Partner with the accounting team to strengthen internal controls
• Identify process improvements and efficiency opportunities
• Ensure GAAP compliance and financial accuracy across entities

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Real estate–focused coursework is a plus)
• 2+ years of accounting experience
• Experience in real estate accounting is a big plus, but the right person can be trained
• Background in project‑based accounting and cost tracking
• Experience with Yardi is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and other financial regulations
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
• Clear communication and collaboration skills
• Self‑starter who works independently and within a team
• Analytical thinker and proactive problem solver
