Our client is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead accurate, compliant, and scalable payroll operations across a growing multi-state healthcare organization. This role will own end-to-end payroll processing for corporate, clinical, and provider teams while ensuring compliance, system optimization, audit readiness, and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities- Own end-to-end multi-state payroll processing, including semi-monthly/bi-weekly payroll cycles for all employee populations.
- Manage payroll activities including new hires, terminations, leaves, bonuses, commissions, garnishments, and off-cycle payments.
- Review payroll reports and ensure accuracy prior to submission.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll questions and employee concerns.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage-and-hour requirements.
- Manage payroll tax registrations, filings, reconciliations, and audit readiness.
- Maintain payroll policies, controls, and processes to support organizational growth.
- Optimize payroll systems, integrations, and reporting tools while driving automation and process improvements.
- Partner with Finance on payroll accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
- Support payroll integrations for newly acquired entities.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of payroll specialists while establishing strong processes and accountability.
- 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state payroll processing.
- 3+ years of experience managing or leading a payroll team.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, wage-and-hour laws, and payroll accounting practices.
- Experience with payroll/HRIS systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Workday, UKG, or Paylocity.
- Experience supporting healthcare, multi-site, multi-entity, or M&A environments.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with complex payroll data.
- Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage competing deadlines.
- CPP certification preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
