Manager, External Reporting & Technical Accounting The Company
Our client is a newer public company in industrial manufacturing that stood up its corporate finance function from scratch after becoming standalone. External reporting, SOX, and consolidations are all relatively young, so there is real room to shape process instead of inheriting it. The business is over $1B in revenue with a large base of recurring demand, and it recently closed its first acquisition, opening up live M&A and purchase accounting work.
The RoleThis is a build seat, not a maintenance seat. You will lead SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy) and own technical accounting on complex, non-routine transactions. You report to a Director of External Reporting with a strong Big 4 technical background, with one direct report and a clear path as the team scales. Routine month-end work is moving to a new shared services team, so this role stays focused on reporting and technical accounting rather than close mechanics.
WhatYou'll Own
- Lead periodic SEC filings and related disclosures, including MD&A
- Research and document technical positions on M&A, stock comp, revenue recognition, and new pronouncements
- Serve as primary liaison to external auditors
- Champion SOX 404 controls over financial reporting
- Partner with IR, Legal, Treasury, and Corporate Development on deals and disclosures
- Lead adoption of new standards, including impact assessments
- 4 to 8 years of SEC reporting or technical accounting experience
- Big 4 or large public accounting background strongly preferred
- Strong command of US GAAP, SEC rules, and SOX 404
- CPA preferred, not required
- Real technical research depth on complex transactions
- Workiva or Active Disclosure, XBRL, and Oracle or SAP all a plus
- They want someone who understands the why behind the numbers, not just the mechanics. This fits a high-performing senior stepping up to a manager title, or a lighter-touch corporate manager who wants more technical ownership.
- Base target $150K to $155K, with flexibility to the mid-$160s for the right public plus corporate SEC profile
- 12% target bonus
- 401K match up to roughly 9%
- Effectively unlimited PTO in practice
- Covered parking and company phone
Hybrid, 3 days onsite in Nashville, pick your days.
Genuine hybrid, direct technical mentorship, live M&A exposure, and a real chance to leave a footprint on a young public company's reporting function.
