What You’ll Actually Do
  • Monitor:
    Monitor federal and third-party grant and program funds to ensure accurate fund results.
  • Audit:
    Audit basic invoices, billings, and tax-related accounting documents for compliance with departmental policies, contract terms, and federal and state laws.
  • Analyze:
    Analyze general ledger transactions and account documentation from external customers to ensure accurate recording and appropriate application of funds and expenditures.
  • Reconcile & Process:
    Perform basic reconciliations of general ledger accounts, prepare financial activity reports, process accounts payable transactions and accounting journal entries, and prepare sales tax returns.
  • Communicate & Manage:
    Gather account information from internal and external customers, solve basic customer billing problems, manage long‑term projects to ensure timely completion, and communicate effectively regarding financial transactions.
The Must-Haves
  • Background:
    Entry-level professional accounting role requiring a bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a bachelor’s degree including thirty‑six quarter hours in accounting, from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience:

    Entry-level professional accounting experience will be gained during a mandatory one‑year training period, after which successful completion leads to reclassification to the next higher class.
  • Skills:

    Strong understanding of Economics and Accounting principles, Mathematical Reasoning, Written Comprehension, and Problem Sensitivity.
